How to enjoy a night out at the pub on a budget

Who doesn’t love saving a few quid on a night out at the pub? Most of us want value for money, no matter how much we’ve got to spend! Looking for pubs near you open now but don’t want to blow your budget? Here’s how to do it with EPIC pub deals and more!

Seven ways to save money on a night out

Spending less doesn’t have to mean less fun. In fact, it can be a lot more fun knowing you aren’t going to wake up to a sackful of regret! So check out our lucky number seven tips for saving some cash at the pub.

Set a budget

You may be on a budget, but what is the budget? Make sure you know what you can spend before you head out, and stick to it! Don’t get slack after you have a couple of drinks. Once you’re spent up, you’re spent up! And try not to forget it..!

2. Go to a pub with deals .

One of the best ways to make your budget work is by going to a pub with great deals. Deals are the best! Deals, deals, deals! No matter if you’re sticking to drinks or having a bite to eat, take advantage of special offers to get more for less.

3. Have food at home for the end of the night

Even if you have some food while you’re out, there’s a good chance you’ll be hungry again by the end of the night. But don’t splash out on takeaways. One, they’re expensive. Two, they’re usually pretty unhealthy too. Make sure you’ve got something at home waiting for you when you get back – and make it decent so you aren’t tempted by a takeaway!

4. Avoid buying big rounds

We’ve all been there. Stood at the bar offering a drink to everyone we see. Or announcing to the whole beer garden you’re getting a round in. But buying big rounds is expensive and something you’re going to regret in the morning if you’re on a budget. Stick to smaller rounds if you’re in a big group, or just buy your own drink to make sure you don’t get caught out.

5. Trim your travel costs

How are you getting to the pub? In a taxi? Let’s have a think about how you can save a few quid! Can you catch a bus, train or tram? Can you grab a lift with a mate? Better still, can you walk it? Perfect for a breath of fresh air in summer! If you do need to get a taxi, share one with your mates and make sure you split the fare. It’s super easy to do that on Uber these days!

6. Leave your credit card at home

Credit cards can be a dangerous game at the pub! Spending money you don’t have can be a lot easier on a credit card, so leave it at home. Only take your debit card, and if you’ve got your credit card stored on your phone, make sure you don’t use it or even disable it just in case!

7. Use a gift card

What’s better than credit and debit cards? Gift cards! Do you know that we’ve got them here at Hungry Horse and you can use them at our pubs open near you now? They’re awesome, because when someone gets you one, it’s free drinks at the bar for you! So the next time someone’s stuck for buying you a present, you know what to ask for! Christmas is only round the corner after all..!

What not to do!

As well as being on your best behaviour so everyone has a great time, a big thing to avoid is accepting drinks from strangers. It may be tempting if you’re on a budget, but stay safe wherever you are. Most of us like to think the best of people, but if you don’t know someone and their intentions, it could be best to steer clear if they offer you a free drink.
