The best of the action

Whether you want to watch the football every Sunday or midweek, the big rugby matches, or the top cricket contests, these are the events you need to add to your sporting calendar in 2025.

The footy

Some huge matches are coming up in 2025. As we enter the new calendar year, we start to get into the business end of the season. It’s when the top teams really kick into gear, knowing that an unbeaten run can push them onto the title. We see you Manchester City and Pep Guardiola.

Cup thrills

The FA Cup third round will start in January with the big hitters entering the fray. The FA Cup final takes place on 25th May at Wembley, which is always an important date for your diary. The season's first silverware is available with the League Cup final on 16th March. Who will take the crown this year?

Season climax

The final week of the Premier League season finishes on the 25th of May, with the Champions League final the following Saturday on the 31st of May. The Europa League final is on 21st May for a packed month of footy.

Next season, international football will take centre stage with the Nations League finals taking place from the 4th to the 8th of June and then the African Cup of Nations, held in Morocco, starting in late December. The Premier League 25/26 season will also start in August so there’s plenty of footy to keep you entertained!

The rugby

A huge date in the rugby calendar in 2025 is the Women’s Rugby World Cup. Held in England from 22nd August to 27th September, if you can’t get a ticket the next best place to watch it is, of course, at your local Hungry Horse sports pub.

Other notable events in the 2025 rugby calendar include the Six Nations, kicking off on 31st January, the British & Irish Lions tour of Australia beginning in July, and the autumn internationals later in the year.

Don’t miss the final of the Champions Cup at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on 24th May either. What a month of sport May is shaping up to be!

The cricket

2025 is a big year when it comes to the action on the wicket. The back end of the year sees England once again travel down under to take on Australia in the Ashes – we have to wait until 21st November for the first test though.

But before then, there’s plenty of top-class cricket to enjoy including the Women’s World Cup in India, the IPL from March to May, and the Hundred once again beginning in July.

The tennis

It’s time to don your whites and head down to one of our sports pubs to catch the best live tennis. Everyone’s favourite tennis tournament, Wimbledon, runs from 30th June to 13th July, with all the action from SW19 shown live on the BBC and in our pubs.

Before that, there’s the small matter of the Australian Open from 6th to 26th January, followed by the French Open in May and June (19th May to 8th June). The final grand slam of the year is the US Open from 25th August to 7th September.

The golf

If you love catching the golf on the big screen at our sports pubs, key dates for your 2025 sporting diary include:

  • The Masters: 6th – 13th April
  • The PGA Championship: 11th – 18th May
  • The US Open: 7th – 15th June
  • The Open: 13th – 20th July

And the big one is back this year too. Watch Europe and the USA once again battle it out in the Ryder Cup from 23rd to 28th September.

The boxing

There will be plenty of big fights in 2025, with some fierce competitors taking to the ring once again. When it comes to heavyweight boxing, the action in 2025 will be dictated by the rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk scheduled for 21st December this year. Whether the Gypsy King can exact his revenge on the Ukrainian will have big implications for the likes of Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

Motorsport

Gear up for some fast and exciting motorsports in our sports pubs too. The F1 season begins in March with the Melbourne Grand Prix held from 13th to 16th March. A couple more dates to lock in are the Monaco Grand Prix on 25th May and the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on 6th July. The season culminates with the final race in Abu Dhabi on 7th December.

The MotoGP season begins on 2nd March with the Thailand Grand Prix and the 22-race season finishes on 16th November in Valencia. The British Grand Prix is on 25th May at Silverstone.

The horse racing

There’s nothing like watching horse racing in one of our Hungry Horse sports pubs. And there really isn’t a more exciting race to capture the UK public’s imagination than the Grand National. The big one will be run on 12th April, but the question is who are you backing? The Cheltenham Festival runs from 11th to 14th March, with the Gold Cup held on Friday 14th March.

Also, don’t miss the Epsom Derby between the 6th and 7th of June and Royal Ascot from the 17th to the 21st of June.

The best of the rest

Other top sporting events not to miss in 2025 include the Tour de France from the 5th to the 27th of July, the Super Bowl on the 9th of February, and the World Championship Snooker from the 19th of April to the 5th of May.
