Five cosy comfort food dishes to warm you up this winter

Nothing, we repeat, nothing, warms the soul like hearty comfort food in the chilly winter months. It makes us feel cosy, puts a spring back in our step and makes snowy days feel just that little bit brighter.

Here at Hungry Horse, we pride ourselves on putting a smile on our guests' faces all year round, and that goes for winter too! From big, tasty burgers to absolute pub classics, you'll find plenty of comfort food here on our menu, including starters, mains and unmissable desserts. And great taste doesn't have to come at a great price: have you seen our daily deals?

But with so many great dishes on the menu, which are the must-have comfort food choices to enjoy in the winter? We've taken the guesswork out for you with our list of five must-have dishes to warm you up this winter.

One: Start the day the right way with our Mega Breakfast

Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so of course, the first of our five comfort food dishes is a massive morning meal! Not one for the faint-hearted, the Mega Breakfast is the perfect choice for fuelling up before a big day out. With three sausages, three rashers of bacon, and three free-range fried eggs, it's served up in style, accompanied by mushrooms, baked beans, three hash browns, and a few slices of toast and butter. If this doesn't warm the cockles on a snowy winter morning, nothing will.

Two: Enjoy a midweek treat with our Steak & Ruddles Ale Pie

Picture this: Tender pieces of beef in a rich ale gravy, fresh garden peas and your choice of chips or mashed potatoes. Our Steak & Ruddles Ale Pie is the quintessential winter warmer and an excellent choice for any day of the week–whether you're popping in after work and school with the little ones or relaxing after 5-a-side football on a grey Saturday morning. It's filling, hearty and comforting–just what you need in the darker months. You can thank us later.

Three: Kick back and relax with a Classic Fish & Chips

If you ask us (and let's face it, that's why you're here), a good old plate of fish and chips is the ultimate comfort food dish all year round, so why save it for a summer staycation on the coast? Come to ours for a good old chippy tea any day of the week with our Classic Fish & Chips. We serve a hand-battered piece of fish with big, fluffy chips, plus your choice of peas or mushy peas. And if you're stomach's really rumbling, why not order some brown or white bread butter to make a DIY chip butty?

Four: Indulge your burger craving with the Triple Stack

There are burgers, then there are jaw-dropping Hungry Horse burgers. The Triple Stack is the latter, and comfort food doesn't get any better than this. This tower of deliciousness features a double bacon cheeseburger topped with buttermilk chicken and drizzled with gooey nacho sauce. But wait– it gets better. We wrap all that in a soft brioche bun, and serve it with chips, onion rings, red onion, lettuce and mayo.

Five: Apple Crumble

When it comes to winter desserts, we like our puddings with a little dash of nostalgia, and our Apple Crumble hits the spot every time. The ultimate comfort food for those with a serious sweet tooth, featuring sweet and tangy apples and berries nestled under a crunchy crumble top, topped with oozy, warm custard. It's like a warm hug from your grandma after a terrible day.

Enjoy wallet-friendly comfort food every day with our daily deals

Here at Hungry Horse, we believe great-tasting comfort food doesn't need to break the bank, which is why you'll find amazing deals on food all week long. And that's all year long, too! Make a saving on all your favourite grills on Grill Monday, create the ultimate weekday dinner on Mix It Up Tuesday, celebrate hump day with Curry Wednesday, make a massive saving on Big Course Thursday and tuck into 'Buy One Get One For £1’ burgers on Friday. Then, at the weekend, treat the whole family to our hearty specials on Sizzler Saturday, and end the week on a high with our roast deals on Special Sundays.
A Duo of Meat roast dinner at Hungry Horse venues, featuring slices of roast meat, roast potatoes, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding, peas, and vegetables, served on a plate. The plate sits on a wooden table next to a ramekin of pigs in blankets and a small roasting dish of roast potatoes, and a person sitting at the table is pouring gravy over the plate from a gravy boat.

And speaking of roasts....

You didn't seriously think we'd tell you about our favourite Hungry Horse comfort foods and leave out the classic Sunday Roast, did you? The humble roast is a British institution and a tradition for families up and down the country, but if you feel like enjoying a roast without all the washing up, why not come and try ours?

Choose from a hand-carved top side of beef, tender and juicy turkey, or our delicious vegetable tart, and our chefs will fill the rest of your plate with all the trimmings you love, including fluffy Yorkshire puddings, crispy roast potatoes, a dollop of mash, and fresh vegetables. If you're really hungry, add our roast extras, such as cauliflower cheese and pigs in blankets, for just 99p. And if you really want to push the boat out, take advantage of our Special Sundays deal and get a roast and a pudding for a fantastic price.
