The tasty story behind National Cheeseburger Day
The origins of this foodie day are a little unclear, but as far as we know, big celebrations have been held in honour of the humble cheeseburger since at least the early noughties.
However, if you're asking about the history of the cheeseburger, that goes a little further back. Teenager Lionel Sternberger is widely credited as being the brains behind the cheeseburger back in the 1920s.
As the story goes, Lionel was working at his father's sandwich shop when he decided to add a slice of cheese to a sizzling hamburger patty. Other sources say the discovery was made by chance, after the cheese slice fell in. Talk about a happy accident!
How do people celebrate the day?
