What is the tradition behind Easter?

Easter is a springtime celebration with roots in Christianity, marking the resurrection of Jesus Christ. But today, it's a time for families and friends to come together, enjoy delicious food, and mark the arrival of spring. Think egg hunts, roast dinners, and, of course, a cheeky chocolate bunny or two.

What do people commonly eat over Easter?

One of the best things about Easter is gathering around the table for some proper good grub. For many, it’s roast dinner season, with lamb taking centre stage alongside crispy roasties, plenty of gravy, and all the trimmings. Fancy something a little different? Beef, ham, turkey, and even vegetable tarts are also firm favourites.
And let's not forget the sweet treats. Hot cross buns, chocolate eggs galore, maybe even a slice of simnel cake – Easter is the perfect excuse to indulge your sweet tooth.

When is Easter in 2025?

In 2025, Easter Sunday falls on 20th April, with Good Friday on 18th April marking the start of a long weekend. What better opportunity to savour well-earned time off work, tuck into a delicious roast, or just spend quality time with family and friends? Whatever you’ve got planned, Easter is always something to look forward to.
Looking for a pub lunch near you to make the most of the long weekend? Hungry Horse will have the doors open and the table set – see you then!
